The Drift Project

By Robb  //  News  //  No Comments

The Drift will be a one-night exhibition that celebrates and explores an artist’s movement through his or her medium. The idea of the Drift, as best defined by the Situationists is: an unconscious yet willing movement from one place to another; the leisure activity of letting oneself be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.

On October 14th 2010, from 6-9pm, visitors will be guided both simultaneously and virtually, to and from these different spaces, in an interactive show piece that will invite people to wander both physically and mentally through these multiple exhibitions. Utilizing ‘Ustream,’ each exhibition will be broadcasted live on the Internet as well as projected in each space. Artworks will explore the concepts of movement, wandering, terrain and architecture in relation to the artist or wherever they might project themselves. Artwork included in these exhibitions will incorporate all mediums such as: Video, 2D, sculpture, mixed media, installation & performance art.

An Obeisance to Marshall Applewhite

By Robb  //  Projects  //  2 Comments

An Obeisance to Marshall Applewhite is a hotel room installation included in Showtel 8 at Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach, Florida. Teaming together with Jordi Williams we created a installation that transformed the room into a new realm.

Viewer-participants are invited to become fully emerged in sound, light, video and texture approximating an artificial plant grow-room in space. Plastic plant-clumps and an astroturf floor set an eerie backdrop for a spacey soundscape created live by a spaceman cult leader. Surrounded and disoriented by darkly reflective walls and ceiling, viewers may lounge on shiny pods amid the synthetic landscape to bask with the members of Heaven’s Gate outside of space and time. FUSpaceman

By Robb  //  Projects  //  No Comments

FU Spaceman is an evolving collaborative project with Zak Hemsteger and Ryann Slauson. The project came to fruition during the Contain It! exhibition in Dunedin, Florida. For the exhibition, artists were invited to create an installation inside a movable storage POD. The idea of having a contained space started to become relative to the ideas of space travel and eventually evolved in the idea of containing oneself in a space pod.

The live a/v performances contain video and intimate soundscapes produced by myself while both Zak and Ryann play drum kits, while we as a whole create a live improvisation related to our surroundings. While the first performance was in a contained space, we have continued to approach the ideas in new ways taking to performing at new venues and events. [February 2010 - Current]
