An Obeisance to Marshall Applewhite

By Robb  //  Projects  //  2 Comments

An Obeisance to Marshall Applewhite is a hotel room installation included in Showtel 8 at Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach, Florida. Teaming together with Jordi Williams we created a installation that transformed the room into a new realm.

Viewer-participants are invited to become fully emerged in sound, light, video and texture approximating an artificial plant grow-room in space. Plastic plant-clumps and an astroturf floor set an eerie backdrop for a spacey soundscape created live by a spaceman cult leader. Surrounded and disoriented by darkly reflective walls and ceiling, viewers may lounge on shiny pods amid the synthetic landscape to bask with the members of Heaven’s Gate outside of space and time. Male Chauvinist Pig (Ode to Biff)

By Robb  //  Projects  //  No Comments

Chauvinism, in its original and primary meaning, is an exaggerated, bellicose patriotism and a blind belief in national superiority and glory. Male chauvinism has occurred probably since the dawn of man and it continues to this day. As a symbol of the penultimate male, imagery of Sean Connery appears in a storefront window with typical male chauvinistic jokes superimposed overtop. [March 2010]

FUSpaceman

By Robb  //  Projects  //  No Comments

FU Spaceman is an evolving collaborative project with Zak Hemsteger and Ryann Slauson. The project came to fruition during the Contain It! exhibition in Dunedin, Florida. For the exhibition, artists were invited to create an installation inside a movable storage POD. The idea of having a contained space started to become relative to the ideas of space travel and eventually evolved in the idea of containing oneself in a space pod.

The live a/v performances contain video and intimate soundscapes produced by myself while both Zak and Ryann play drum kits, while we as a whole create a live improvisation related to our surroundings. While the first performance was in a contained space, we have continued to approach the ideas in new ways taking to performing at new venues and events. [February 2010 - Current]

Black and Jones – Lullaby [REMIX]

By Robb  //  Projects  //  No Comments

While thinking about the artform that is the remix, I started to remix other artist video works. Black and Jones – Lullaby is a very sweet lullaby that is intended to be just that. In my remix, I have not altered any of the original concepts, though I have added elements that bring on a dark and ominous feeling about the video. [October 2009]
